Our Backyard Detroit

If you care about Detroit, green spaces, recycling, the environment, and LOVE YOUR PARK...join us as a park champion!

Whether you’re an avid environmentalist, or just want to learn how you can help, we definitely have volunteer opportunities for you!

Our Backyard Detroit is an opportunity for residents to step into a role of community stewardship, protecting and enhancing public spaces in their neighborhoods. Champions will represent parks and bridge the gap between city departments and public community spaces. In partnership with The Gilbert Family Foundation, Green Living Science is seeking dedicated community members to join our team and help inform Detroiters about the stewardship of green spaces through the Our Backyard Detroit program!

You will receive training on all there is to know about caring for the parks in Detroit and equipped with all the necessary tools to help your neighbors receive a FREE recycling cart for their home.

We are looking for responsible and motivated individuals who are passionate about the environment and their community.

Block club, and other neighborhood organization connections are a plus, but not required!

38% of Detroiters currently recycle at home through the curbside program. With your help we can grow that percentage and expand our reach in the community!
